Megadeth - Back To The Start - Greatest Hits
2005- Capitol Records

Review by O.M.O.M.

I always find it hard to review greatest hits records; I’m an album guy myself.  I get most greatest hits compilations and think, “What about this track, they should have put this one on instead of that one…” Megadeth has tried to alleviate this complaint by giving the fans a voice in the track listing of Back To The Start; a poll was conducted in the forums at www.megadeth.com allowing the fans to vote on tracks for the release.  So if you are fan of the band and didn’t vote, don’t bitch about the track selection; If ya don’t vote, ya can’t whine, I always say.

Back To The Start features a good sampling of Megadeth numbers from the Capitol era; one track from the Combat release Killing Is My Business…And Business Is Good is found on the collection, “Mechanix”, I would have liked to have seen another track or two from the Combat release, maybe I should have got off my ass and voted at the site.  The tracks featured are from the remix/remaster project helmed by Dave Mustaine and is a good starting point for those that either have held off buying the remix/remastered releases or are newbies to the Megadeth camp.

Bottom Line: If you are new to Megadeth, snag Back To The Start then get your buns out and pick up the remastered versions of the classic Rust In Peace and Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying? then work your way forward.  Long time fans who have questioned the sound of the remastered releases might want to check this out and check out the limited edition version of Back To The Start which contains a bonus DVD with live performances and a sneak peek at the upcoming full length Megadeth DVD.
