Little Brothers

Columbus, Ohio

Review By Michael Mason.

Doors at Little Brothers opened at 8 and shortly after Days Away rolled out on stage to deliver a stellar performance.  Days Away was on a roll bouncing off the new release of Mapping an Invisible World.  Many concertgoers had yet to hear the new CD until the show, and many of them snagged a copy on the way out the door. (Hopefully they were as impressed as I was with it, but read the review of the CD for that.) JamisonParker came on after Days Away and delivered an outstanding performance for a band that formed in 2003.  Jamison’s vocals were spot on and the band played with gusto.  Many of the songs played were off of the soon to be released Sleepwalker CD, which the band is psyched up about and ready to release.  Some of the songs off the new album that were played included "Slow Suicide" and "PaperRockScissors."

The Academy Is came out on stage and showed the emo crowd what a rock concert was really like.  Academy blasted out their usual set of powerful vocals and passive-aggressive lyrics. Long time fans of the band were treated to yet another great performance.  The crowd was slightly calmer than usual; normally mosh-pits and crowd surfers are everywhere but not that night at Little Brothers. Maybe due to the lack of security and a smaller venue but it might have had something to do with the mellower sounds of the other three bands compared to Academy.

Mae came out on stage sporting two guitars, three keyboards, a bass and a drum set. An awful lot for just five members of a band to handle don’t you think? Well, Mae handled it well, and played them exquisitely.  The show was an overall success, and as I walked out, I saw many contented looks on the faces in the crowd.
